01 FebM.S.M Update…

I have a confession to make… I ran out and haven’t taken any for a while… When I say a while, I mean since I have come back to the UK, which is more than a month. :(

But…I am back on track now and will resume from today. I am also very proud of myself, as today is my 11th month transitioning!

Yay!

25 JanThe Best £10 I’ve Ever Spent!

tenpounds

On my hair that is…

Whipped Shea Butter and Coconut Oil!!!! OMG my hair is in LOVE! My hair is softer than usual and really shiny without feeling greasy.

The 2 ingredients I bought from an Ebay seller. In addition to the cost of a small, cheap whisk from Sainsburys (£4) the finished product cost just under £10!

When I perfect my recipe (when I can get hold of some more natural ingredients) I will make a video, I promise!

I was inspired by a few Youtube vids from lovely natural ladies. Check this one out!

Happy whipping!

18 JanMy New Staple – The Aussie Range

When I came back to the U.K I decided to try a new range of drug store haircare. I decided on the Aussie range as EVERYONE only ever has good things to say about it! I haven’t given up on Pantene’s Naturefusion range, but my hair was feeling a little dull after months of use. Superdrugs has offers on Pantene and Aussie, along with a few other major brands, so that also helped :)

aussiemegahampoo

To start with, I section my hair in 2. I take a very small amount of the Mega Shampoo ( I couldn’t find the Frizz one so I just chose this – sulphates are sulphates after all) and apply to my scalp only while standing under the shower. Smells really nice and sweet and my scalp definitely feels clean afterwards, so I’m happy!

I follow this up with 5 minutes of Megatek.

I then apply in total about half a bottle of Frizz Miracle Conditioner (Good job it’s on offer!).

Again, I love the smell! It looks and smells like bubblegum! Awesome! I leave this on for a few minutes and detangle with my wide tooth comb from the ends upwards. I have to admit, detangling doesn’t seem to difficult with this product as it seems to foam and thicken. The conditioner is definitely a winner for me!

After I wash the conditioner out, I apply a little more and step out of the shower. Then comes the Miracle Hair Insurance Leave In Conditioner.

This smells more subtle than the last two products. I find I usually use this product more on the second and third day to smooth and soften my hair. I wouldn’t say it makes detangling a breeze, as I usually do this in the shower. I do prefer using a thicker leave in for my hair, but overall, I think it is the perfect compliment to the conditioner, which is already quite thick.

Overall, I quite like this brand. It is perfect for detangling and softening my hair, and the price (ranging from £2 to £3 for each product) is a winner! When I can afford to get my hands on some lovely organic, sulphate, cone and alcohol free haircare, I will definitely have to see whether there is a major difference. I’m thinking of the Kinky Curly range specifically :)

15 JanI have “Good Hair!”

j0303364

I met a lovely lady in the gym, and complimented her on her relaxed hair. Her hair looked so full, strong and healthy looking while she sat blow-drying that I just had to give her a compliment. I am the first to admit that I am not anti-relaxer, but during the last year, I have realised the damage chemicals can cause. I asked her if she would consider growing out her hair, and she replied “I don’t want a big puffy afro…You’re ok though, you have good hair!”.

I gushed. I do have good hair, but this is because of my new found knowledge of how to care for it. It is healthy and has the potential to be gorgeous! (Post chop, that is!) She then went on to say she didn’t think she has “good hair” as it would swing or bounce like mine would. I suggested that looking at her relaxed hair, her natural hair would be strong, thick, healthy and therefore, amazing! I want strong, thick and healthy hair too, and while the condition of my hair is improving, I would love it to be thicker, especially the edges.

We both came to the conclusion that we ALL want what we cannot have. I always wanted thicker relaxed hair down to my bum. Now, I love my texture, but if I am honest, I want my hair to be bigger and fuller! I will leave this open to my readers. What, if anything, would you change about your hair?

12 JanNew Year, New Me!

CB025539

I have decided to mend my ways when it comes to fitness and being healthy! Christmas and New Years was a great experience, but one which should only happen once a year, not once or twice a week!

So, I have joined a gym near to my new apartment :) I felt so unfit and have put on alot of weight in the last month or two. I just wasn’t feeling myself, and decided this would help.

And it already has! I have only been going for a few days, mixing it up with a bit of swimming, weights and cardio, and I feel great!

I am hoping the new me will aid healthy skin and hair also :) I am a bit concerned about the chlorine and my hair, so if anyone has any ideas about minimising damage, please let me know! I am not too worried about “sweating out” my hairstyle, because it just gets pulled back into a low pony on gym days anyway!

Good times and good health to all in 2010!!!

20 DecCurlformers: The Results

So…I am very, very pleased with the results!

I sprayed lightly with some Mizani hairspray and I was good to go! I messed it up a little and pinned back some of the curls. Here are the results:

P201209_12.41[02]

P201209_13.25

P201209_13.36

P201209_13.39

I absolutely positively love Curlformers! They blend the 2 textures perfectly which makes them so ideal for transitioners. Next time I will try using a setting lotion for more hold. I can also probably use them without any setting lotions and use my flat iron for a straight look. I’m loving the curls though!

11 out of 10 from me :)
